Poem:

Here, Silence is God'a commandment

Anuoluwa Soneye

Anuoluwa Soneye is a young Nigerian poet and content writer. He has a master’s degree in English Language. He believes social issues are a product of degenerate ideologies, and he uses words as a weapon to drive ideological change. He tells stories of social struggles, and vices, and explores the depths of human depravity. He does activism via satirical poetry with a keen interest in gender discrimination and the “politics of impunity.” His poetry often takes the form of narratives that exist at the intersection of art, ideology, and society. Anuoluwa’s works often drive the interconnection between religion, culture and oppressive ideologies that subsist in our contemporary society, and this is seen in his use of biblical and literary allusions.

He is the winner of the Collins Elesiro Literary Prize (2020), the Revive Poetry Contest (2022), and The Dawn Poetry Prize (2021). He is also a finalist in the Wick Poetry Center Contest (2020), the Nigerian Student Poetry Prize (2019), the Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize (2019), and the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange (WSICE) Independence Day Essay Contest. His happy places are his piano seat, playing the bass guitar, and playing Free Fire or Call of Duty. When not writing, he is reading “weird things” from the Touchstone Anthology of Contemporary Creative Nonfiction.

His Poem titled "Here, Silence is God's commandment" Was the winning selection for our 2024 Nwamaka Okoye Literature prize competition-Poetry category. His poem is featured in the "Coming of Age" book.
