The Martyrdom Of Self

Ifeanyi Omife (preferably called ‘Ify’) is a lawyer living and working in Lagos, Nigeria who was called to the Nigerian bar in 2021. For the benefit of doubt, Ifeanyi is a ‘she’ and has learnt to bear a ‘man’s name’ with grace and wit. Her love for writing stemmed from her love for reading and she began to find her unique voice when she realized at the age of seven (7) that we all have a story within us, and there is no wrong way to tell it.

Ify believes SMEs are the cornerstone for commercial eminence in Nigeria and when she is not ‘lawyering’ at her 9-5, she spends her spare time hand-holding and advising startups and SMEs pro bono, on how to navigate the complex regulatory terrain in Nigeria.

Ify believes we can all change the world and that writers would lead the charge because when all else fails, we would always have words.

Her Poem titled "The Martyrdom of Self" was the third selection for our 2024 Nwamaka Okoye Literature prize competition-Poetry category. Her poem is featured in the "Coming of Age" book.
