It shines a light on the richness of African storytelling by creating opportunities for emerging writers across the continent. More than just a competition, this prize honors the power of words, culture, and imagination, amplifying fresh, unpublished voices and showcasing the diverse narratives that make African literature truly remarkable.

The competition welcomes entries in two categories:​
