With a legacy steeped in Journalism and Poetry, Hauwa's dedication to uncovering new voices in African literature aligns with our mission to celebrate and nurture emerging talent.
Hauwa Shaffii Nuhu is a journalist and poet from Nigeria with by-lines in several international publications. Her poetry has appeared in The Evergreen Review, The Bitter Oleander, Ake Review, The Rising Phoenix, and elsewhere. Her chapbook of poetry, Sister, was published in 2021 by the prestigious African Poetry Book Fund in collaboration with Akashic Books.
She is currently Managing Editor at HumAngle Media. She is a 2018 writer-in-residence at Ebedi Writers Residency, a 2022 Storify Africa Fellow, a 2023 Pulitzer Centre grantee, and a 2023 International Women’s Media Fund (IWMF) grantee. Her journalism examines the human cost of terrorism and insurgencies, as they relate to transitional justice issues, migration, and displacement.
