Owolabi Awwal

Awwal Owolabi is an undergraduate student of English and Literary Studies, University of Lagos who writes both poetry and prose but majors in creative nonfiction. His poems and short stories have been published in several online magazines and in print; The Muse UNN journal, The Quills Magazine, Shuzia, Nanty Greens, Paradise Gate House, Eboquills, etc. In 2022, his flash fiction “I Do Not Know How To Tell This Story” was shortlisted for the Poets In Nigeria Poetically Written Prose contest. In 2023, he won the Niche Poetry Prize in the department of English, University of Lagos. In the same year, his short story “The Thread that Held Our Dreams” was shortlisted for the 2023 Brigitte Poirson Literature Prize (Short Story category). He is the author of JuJu, Guns & Roses; a poetry chapbook, published by Inkspired Publishers in 2022. He is a active Facebooker with the username which doubles as a sobriquet: Tibzy Baba N'la.
